Email Setup for Outlook 2016 for Mac OS with Rackspace Mail
How to Sync Outlook with Rackspace: Swipe mouse pointer to the top-right corner of computer screen to display the Charms menu. Select “Search” button and enter “Mail” in the Search box and then click “Settings” to load the Settings prompt. Open Outlook 2016 and go to the File tab. Then, just above the Account Settings button, click Add Account. Select Manual setup or additional server types. Then in Choose service select POP or IMAP. Add your user information and host server information, Account type: IMAP. Incoming mail server: imap.aol.com. It checks my Rackspace IMAP mail instantly. (Oh, the good ole days.) However, it now asks for my Office 365 sign-in every time I power cycle my Mac. This behavior isn't seen in my other Office for Mac apps that are running the latest version. I have set up Mac Mail while I wait for Microsoft to fix this very serious problem with Outlook.

Follow the instructions in Migrate from a POP server to IMAP in Outlook for Mac, before continuing with the instructions for Outlook for 2016 Mac. Configure mail settings. Quit Outlook 2016 by right-clicking the icon and selecting Quit. Open Finder and select Applications. Highlight Outlook 2016 in the application menu, and right-click the icon.

or if you have opened outlook before it may not prompt to setup an account

11 - You're done! You should see the main Outlook window and your email should begin downloading shortly. Please allow 15 minutes for email to download before troubleshooting.
