How To Create Small Caps In Word For Mac

  1. Mar 19, 2019 You can use a handy keyboard shortcut to quickly change letter cases in Word. 1) Select the text, whether a single word or entire document. 2) Hold Shift and press F3. You can continue to hold the Shift key and click F3 to move through the uppercase, lowercase, and capital options until you get the one you want.
  2. Feb 04, 2020 Instead, use the Word Change Case tool to change some or all of the text to a different case, such as all caps. Instructions in this article apply to Word for Microsoft 365, Word 2019, Word 2016, Word 2013, and Word 2010.
  3. Using the Taskbar To create small caps font, type the text first. Be sure the first letter of the text is capitalized. Highlight the section of text to be changed to small caps.
  4. FWIW the keyboard shortcut works OK here. Does the font have Small caps glyphs? AFAIK there is currently no way to modify the toolbars on this version of Word. You can check that the key is assigned by going into Tools-CustomizeKeyboard, selecting category Format, and searching for SmallCaps.

In Microsoft Word, you can use the keyboard shortcut Shift+F3 to change selected text between uppercase, lowercase, and title case.

In order to get the small caps, you have to go through a few more steps. Right-click on the selected text and choose Font. Now you can check the Small caps box to get small caps text. It would have been more convenient if they just kept it in the Change Case box, but for whatever reason you have to open the Font dialog.

Selecting a case

  1. Highlight all the text you want to change.
  2. Hold down the Shift key and press F3.
  3. When you hold Shift and press F3, the text toggles from sentence case (first letter uppercase and the rest lowercase), to all uppercase (all capital letters), and then all lowercase.
Note

If you are using a laptop or an Apple Mac, the function keys may not be enabled without the use of the Fn key. You may need to hold the Fn key, in addition to the Shift key, when you press F3.

If you're not able to get the Shift+F3 shortcut to work in Microsoft Word 2007 or later, you can try the following option instead.

Word
  1. In the menu bar, on the Home tab, click the Change Case icon, which has an uppercase 'A' and lowercase 'a.'
  1. Select the appropriate option from the list of values. For example, if you want to change to all uppercase letters, select the UPPERCASE option. If you want to change to all lowercase letters, select the lowercase option.

You’re quoting the Bible in your book and many of the verses use LORD in small caps. But you don’t know how to get those little capitals so you type LORD in your manuscript.

Or maybe you missed the fact completely that Lord was in all caps. I see that often in the nonfiction manuscripts I edit.

If you fail to use all caps, you are misquoting the verse. Lord and LORD represent different Hebrew words.

If you’ve made this mistake, don’t worry. Creating them is simple, both in MS Word and in Scrivener (but not on the web!).
